The format

Watch the idea. Then follow your curiosity.

A video book is an 8 to 12 minute story that walks you through the argument of a book or paper. Vee sits next to it, ready for whatever you want to know next.

01 · Watch

The whole argument, in one sitting.

Each video book is scripted by editors and illustrated scene by scene, so the big ideas land and the details stick.

02 · Ask

Pause and ask anything.

Vee knows exactly where you are in the story. Ask for an example, a simpler explanation, or how the idea applies to your week.

Think of a bad review at work. Marcus would say the review is an event; the hurt comes from the story you tell yourself about it.
03 · Trace

See where every answer comes from.

Answers link to the exact chapter, page or section. When Vee goes beyond the text, it tells you.

Our promises

Built with respect for the source.

i.

The book comes first.

Vee answers from the text you're watching before anything else, and labels anything that goes beyond it.

ii.

People check the videos.

AI helps us research, storyboard and produce. An editor reviews every video book before it goes on the shelf.

iii.

Authors get their due.

We start with public-domain works and open research. Newer titles will only come with the rights to do them properly.

iv.

Curiosity, not streaks.

No guilt-trip notifications. VOOKS is designed to make you want to learn more, not to keep you scrolling.

FAQ

Good questions.

What exactly is a video book?

A short film, usually 8 to 12 minutes, that walks you through the main argument of a book or research paper. It's scripted from the source, illustrated scene by scene and narrated, so you understand the ideas instead of just hearing about them.

Who is Vee?

Vee is the AI reading companion built into VOOKS. You can pause any video book and ask a question. Vee answers in plain language, cites the chapter or section it's drawing from, and tells you when it's going beyond the text.

Are the videos made by AI?

AI helps with research, scripting and production, which is how a small team can make many of them. Every video book is reviewed by an editor before it's published.

Does it replace reading the book?

For some people it'll be enough. For many, we hope it's the push to read the whole thing. Each video book links to the full text, and public-domain titles are free to read.

When can I use it, and what will it cost?

We're building VOOKS for iPhone and Android and will let people in from the list in small groups. Pricing will be announced before launch, and early members will hear about it first.

What languages?

English first. Spanish is next on our list, and the waitlist helps us decide what comes after.
